My name is Ali Edwards and I am a needle felt artist based in Northamptonshire. I have been needle felting since January 2024 and founded fuzzycrumbs as a way to both showcase and sell my handcrafted creations. ​I have always been a massive fan of wool and felt in particular (think '70s ‘fuzzy felt’ - my absolute favourite toy growing up!!) and love its tactile softness and the range of textures and colours.
 
Designing and crafting beautiful pieces out of wool has become my passion. ​
 
So, what is needle felting? Needle felting is a process of agitating wool with a special notched felt needle until the fibers mesh together. You can create 2D or 3D pieces by sculpting as you ‘stab’ the wool. I use core wool for my base to get the design/shape and then add colours and different wool called ‘tops’ or ‘roving’ to bring the piece to life. My aim is to use 100% wool where possible so no fillers. It is a relatively cheap hobby and there are lots of UK based wool suppliers to stock up from.​

Why did I start needle felting? I have never thought of myself as being creative but something clicked when I started needle felting - I bought myself a kit from Hobbycraft and made two little cats and I was hooked ! Finally, I found something that unlocked my creativity :) I look for inspiration everywhere and make pieces that challenge me so I can learn different techniques to build my skill set and attempt more complex creations. It is incredibly therapeutic and versatile - the things you can make are endless!​
